Karen Schlapper, a Prairie Village freshman, was crowned Miss Lawrence-KU at the annual Jaycee event. She was to represent the community in the Miss Kansas pageant.

About 100 people gathered in front of KU’s Strong Hall during a 45-minute anti-war rally sponsored by the KU Student Peace Union, the Kansas Peace Forum and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.
