Farm bureau to sponsor well-plugging demo

The Douglas County Farm Bureau Association is sponsoring a well-plugging demonstration on May 18.

The association will begin work at 6 p.m. plugging a 25-foot deep, hand-dug water well at the Floyd Schmidt farm, 1788 N. 600 Road, in Baldwin City.

Terry Wright, county coordinator for the farm bureau, said there are many unused wells like this in the county, and they pose a danger to children and animals. The purpose of the event is to help prevent unnecessary accidents. The demonstration is open to the public. Free sandwiches will be provided to all participants.
