Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for May 1, 1907: “The expense of handling the damaging green bug situation in wheat fields is becoming a problem that must be solved at once. The university has no fund available for the purpose. The Bowersock Mill and Power Co. has been standing behind Prof. Hunter and has been doing good work in trying to secure contributions from the millers of the state. But much more money is badly needed to help the university supply the boxes of bees that can cope with the bugs and get the boxes sent to farmers in need. The State Grange is due to help but so far KU is some 500 orders behind in the battle.”
