Houston, with All-American Elvin Hayes and Don Chaney, manhandled Kansas 66-53 in the opening round of NCAA Regional basketball play in Allen Fieldhouse. Southern Methodist upset Louisville. Houston went on to win the NCAA semifinals but lost to UCLA in the title game. Kansas took third in the regional here by defeating Louisville, featuring Wes Unseld.
