The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was checking on the death of Thomas Daniels, a Virginia Inn night clerk, in a police shootout at Salina. Evidence was that the hostage had been killed by a police bullet in the chase. Two robbers who apparently had seized Daniels at the Inn here and then fled faced murder charges for putting Daniels “in harm’s way” after they had kidnapped him and drove to Salina to escape.
