KU’s Arthur off to trials

? Kansas University sophomore Darrell Arthur is one of 18 players to compete at USA Basketball’s Under 19 team trials Thursday through Saturday at American Airlines Center.

In all, 12 finalists will remain for the USA’s July 1-7 training camp, which will include the USA playing an exhibition game on July 1 against Yao Ming’s China Senior National Team and participating in the Global Games in Dallas.

Kansas State’s Michael Beasley is also an Under 19 hopeful. The USA squad will also play three games against international competition as part of the July 5-7 Global Games that are also being held at SMU.

USA Basketball announced the withdrawal of two previously announced U19 Trials participants. Drew Gordon, who injured his hand at the 2007 USA Basketball Youth Development Festival, and 2006 USA U18 Trials finalist James Hickson have withdrawn.

The USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team will compete in the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championship July 12-22 in Novi Sad, Serbia.
