Cleveland – Kelly Shoppach’s pinch-hit three-run homer capped a five-run ninth inning rally and lifted Cleveland.

Shoppach hit a 1-0 pitch from Alan Embree (1-1) into the left-field bleachers for his fourth homer and lifted the Indians to their sixth win in nine games. Travis Hafner’s two-out, two-run double tied it.

Orioles 3, Yankees 2

Baltimore – Corey Patterson capped a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate by scoring the winning run in the ninth.

White Sox 6, Devil Rays 1

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Andy Gonzalez and Jim Thome homered to back Jon Garland’s strong pitching and help Chicago snap a season-worst, five-game losing streak.

Gonzalez, who had four hits and drove in two runs, hit his first career homer – a two-run shot off James Shields (6-3) in the fifth inning. Thome hit the 482nd of his career for a 5-0 lead.

Twins 2, Blue Jays 1, 12 inn.

Minneapolis – Pinch-hitter Jeff Cirillo’s bases-loaded bloop single lifted Minnesota to a victory.

Cirillo hit a flare to shallow center field off lefty Brian Tallet (2-2). Vernon Wells and shortstop John McDonald both dived for the ball, but it landed just in front of Wells and allowed Michael Cuddyer to score.

Rangers 9, Tigers 6

Detroit – Marlon Byrd hit a tiebreaking triple in the ninth inning, and Texas beat Detroit after blowing a three-run lead in the eighth.

Mariners 8, Red Sox 7

Seattle – Richie Sexson hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to give Seattle its third and final lead.
