Nominations open for committees

The Farm Service Agency is accepting nominations for farmers and ranchers as candidates for the agency’s county committees.

Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 1, said Johnathon Alley, Douglas County executive director. Elections will be conducted Nov. 2 through Dec. 3, and new members will take office Jan. 1.

The committees make decisions that affect disaster and conservation programs, emergency programs, commodity price support loan programs and other agricultural issues. Members serve three-year terms.

To be eligible to serve on a county committee, a candidate must participate or cooperate in a program administered by the agency; be eligible to vote in a county committee election; and reside in the local administrative area in which the person is a candidate. Producers may nominate themselves, and organizations representing minorities and women also may nominate candidates.

To become a nominee, individuals must sign form FSA-669A. The form and other information are available at www.fsa.usda.gov by clicking on “News & Events,” then “County Committee Elections.”
