Fort Riley soldier confirmed killed in Baghdad

? A soldier from Michigan has been killed in Iraq, the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed Friday.

Pfc. Shawn D. Gajdos, 25, of Grand Rapids, died Wednesday in Baghdad of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by insurgents using improvised explosive devices and small arms fire.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kan.

Gajdos enlisted about 18 months ago. He had been in Iraq since February after shipping out of Fort Riley, friend Kay Shepard said.
