Local firefighters were still looking for the cause of a $20,000 fire at the Achievement Place for Boys at 1320 Haskell. Nobody had been seriously hurt. Seven boys lived at the shelter which already was attempting to rebuild and get back into full operation.

Officials at Perry and Clinton lakes here, beset by heavy rains that were swelling their reservoirs, were uncertain how much water they could release without causing difficulties on the Kansas River.
