Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 23, 1907: “Haskell Institute of Lawrence and Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania are no longer in danger of being closed. A U.S. Senate commission has turned down the dubious proposal and there was a declaration that Haskell is doing good work and has never been in a more satisfactory condition regarding education for Indian people. : There was the usual sparring in court today regarding the charges against a Greek man accused of statutory rape with a local girl. Little seems to have been decided. : Emporia will be 50 years old in a few weeks but still cavorts around like a kid that isn’t old enough to know better.”
