Local productions, film win awards

Two television programs produced by Free State Studios are first-place winners in the Mid-America Cable Telecommunications Association’s 2007 MIDI Awards, and a short film produced by the company was honored during a film festival in Kentucky.

Winning MIDIs:

¢ “Jayni’s Kitchen,” produced by Kevin Dobson and Jayni Carey, in the Community Programming/Series category.

¢ The “Jayhawk Kennel Club Dog Show,” produced by Dave Severance, in the Community Programming/Single Program category.

The awards will be presented Sept. 12 during the Mid-America Cable Show at the Overland Park Convention Center.

A Free State Studios short film, “Woman’s Intuition,” won Best Short and Best of the Fest awards during the Fright Night Film Fest, conducted Friday through Sunday in Louisville, Ky. Working on the film were Patrick Rea, director; Josh Robison, editor; and Ryan Jones, sound/ music.

All are Free State Studios employees who have their own production company, SenoReality Pictures.

Free State Studios, which has operations in Lawrence and Topeka, is a division of Free State Communications LLC, Lawrence.
