Roberts JGC Champ: Conrad Roberts fired a pair of three-under-par 69s and won last weekend’s Jayhawk Golf Club championship at Alvamar Public with a two-day score of 138. Chris Anderson was runner-up with a 70-71-141. Bud Stagg was third at 77-74-151, followed by Bob Bezek 77-78-155 and Brian Tuttle 76-79-155. In net scoring, Anderson was low with 68-69-137, followed by Roberts 71-71-142, Mike Stein 72-70-142 and Bob Losasso 69-74-143. Next were Mike Hertling 72-72-144 and Greg Wyatt 74-70-144.

Eagle Bend Men: Eagle Bend Men’s League will conduct a two-man best-ball tournament Aug. 31. Entry deadline is Aug. 28. The league will also hold a match-play tourney from Sept. 4 through Oct. 13. For information, call 748-0600.

Huckabay Hole-in-One: Jack Huckabay used a 7-iron to ace the 105-yard No. 2 hole last Thursday at Alvamar Country Club. Witnesses were Michael McNicoll, Bill Lloyd and Scott Willette.

Lady Prospects: Tryouts for Lady Prospects sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade basketball teams will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at West Junior High. Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m. each day. For information, call 749-2157.

Double Gold: Keith Dowell of Lawrence earned gold medals in the 800 and 1,500 runs and a bronze in the 400 in the ages 50-54 division of the State Games of America earlier this month in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Area Aces: Lulu Lawrence of McLouth, Evan Folks and Bailey Scott of Eudora and Courtney Kasson and LeeAnne Pringle of Perry-Lecompton played on the Kansas City Aces, a U-16 fast-pitch team that won the ASA Northern Nationals in Burlington, Iowa.

Penny Jones Tourney: Entry forms are available at www.lmh.org for the annual Penny Jones golf tournament to benefit the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Assn. The tourney will be Sept. 7 on both Alvamar courses. For information, call Sarah Smith or Kathy Clausing at 749-6134.

Youth Volleyball: Seventh- and eighth-grade girls enrolled in city junior highs are eligible for a volleyball program offered by the city and the school district. A city-wide clinic will be Aug. 29 at Southwest with practices to be twice weekly starting Sept. 3. Games will be played Sept. 22 and 29 and Oct. 6. Registration forms are available at all four schools. The deadline is Aug. 23.

Triathlete Clinic: Youths ages 7-15 are invited to a clinic for aspiring triathletes at 10 a.m. Saturday and again on Aug. 26 at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. For information, go to www.missionme.com.

State Horseshoe Meet: Kansas Horseshoe Pitchers Assn. will conduct its annual state tournament Sept. 1-3 at Forest Park in Ottawa. More than 130 participants will compete in five divisions. Entries closed on Aug. 1.

Sinderson Hole-in-One: Bill Sinderson used a six-iron Monday to ace the 140-yard No. 12 hole at Alvamar. Witnesses were Bob Jones and Cork Cordimer.
