Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 15, 1907: “A general national telegrapher strike for America has been called off for the time being. Meanwhile, a number of wires are working again, including Western Union and Postal Telegraph out of Lawrence. : Horseshoe pitching is gaining popularity and Lawrence seems to have a number capable of winning big events at the county fair this September. Henry Gilham and the Rev. E.E. Stouffer are considered our No. 1 duet. : The Veterinary Guide advertised as a premium for the fall fair here is worth its weight in gold and a copy of it should be in every home where livestock or pets of any kind are kept. : The Douglas County WCTU will meet at the United Presbyterian Church tomorrow. President Jennie Morey of Baldwin will preside.”
