Kansas 10th at Big 12 golf championships

? The Kansas University men’s golf team finished 10th at the Big 12 Championships at Prairie Dunes Country Club. The Jayhawks fired a final-round 304 on Tuesday to finish with 917 strokes.

Sophomore Walt Koelbel paced Kansas on Tuesday with a career-best 69 on the par-70 course.

“It felt awesome playing that good today,” Koelbel said. “I’ll take that every time.

Oklahoma State’s Pablo Martin and Ryan Posey shot 68s Tuesday to lead the Cowboys to victory. OSU shot a final-round 287 and finished the tournament seven strokes ahead of runner-up Texas A&M.

Martin finished first individually, and Posey took second.

“This is a tough conference,” OSU coach Mike McGraw said. “It has not been easy to win at all.”

KU senior Gary Woodland carded a final-round 76 to finish tied for 14th place.

“Gary struggled. This isn’t the course for Gary,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “He can’t utilize his strength on this course the way he would like to.”

The Jayhawks next will compete at the NCAA Central Regional, which will be held May 17-19 at Rich Harvest Farms Golf course in Sugar Grove, Ill.
