Events set to discuss housing issues

Landlords and tenants will have an opportunity to learn more about fair housing laws at an upcoming seminar sponsored by the city’s Human Relations Department.

The department will host a free seminar from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27 at the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive.

Steve Tomkowiak, an attorney and instructor at the Housing and Urban Development Fair Housing Training Academy, will be the keynote speaker.

The seminar will feature topics related to landlord/tenant issues, disability concerns, landlord/tenant mediation and a Kansas legislative update.

To register for the seminar, call the city’s Human Relations Department, 832-3310, or register online at www.lawrencehumanrelations.org.

On April 28, the city also will put on an informational fair on housing issues. The fair, which also is free to attend, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.
