Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 9, 1907: “Recently there have been shooting scrapes in Lawrence which would not have happened if the parties had not been carrying concealed weapons. This is an offense against which a city ordinance is specially directed but the fine is a very small one, the limit being only $10. A good many Lawrence people carry weapons unlawfully and some bad mishaps could develop. Fortunately, the recent ones have been only scrapes. The fines should be increased and time in jail should be part of the punishment for violations and threats. : The Right Rev. T.E. Lillis, bishop of the Catholic diocese of Leavenworth, has left for Rome for a Vatican visit that is mandated every 10 years for people in his position.”
