Lions struggle with Olathe East

? The Lawrence High girls soccer team struggled finishing off its own scoring opportunities and keeping host Olathe East from doing the same, falling 4-0 Thursday in a Sunflower League contest.

“We ran into a buzzsaw. They are a very talented team,” LHS coach Matt Anderson said. “I haven’t looked at the stats, but I’m pretty sure they outshot us about 18-0. I’m not even sure we got a shot off.”

Olathe East capitalized twice on LHS mistakes near the end of the first half to take a 2-0 lead, then added two more tallies after intermission to put the game away.

“We put it on the table for them a couple of times, and they punished us for it,” Anderson said.

Despite his own team’s inability to finish, Anderson praised his team’s possession skills, singling out Olivia Dykes and Abby Vestal for their play in the middle of the field.

The Lions (3-1-1 overall, 0-1-1 Sunflower League) will return to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Olathe North at the Youth Sports Inc. complex.
