Lawrence residents raised nearly $40,000 for leukemia and lymphoma research during the third annual Light the Night Walk, organizers said.

The Sept. 23 event at South Park drew about 500 people for a carnival and fireworks. The money was raised through donations and auctions.

The event was sponsored by the Lymphoma Society-Mid-America Chapter.
