The Douglas County Community Corrections program met most of its key objectives during the past year, according to a summary report presented last week to county commissioners.

One of those objectives was to see that at least 80 percent of offenders in the program do not end up in prison because they violated conditions of their probation that require them to avoid substance abuse. Community Corrections had a 90 percent success rate.

Commissioners Bob Johnson, Charles Jones and Jere McElhaney said they were impressed with the program.

Commissioners also approved a bid from King’s Construction Co. in Oskaloosa for making improvements to East 1300 Road from North 100 Road to North 150 Road, about four miles southwest of Baldwin. King’s low bid was for $203,202.

The improvements are needed because of the future closure of North 100 Road east of the proposed U.S. Highway 59 freeway. There will be a need to provide access to existing U.S. 59 for nearby properties.
