Lawrence city commissioners have narrowed the field to three finalists to become the community's next city manager.

Following an approximately 11-hour closed door executive session today, commissioners announced the following candidates will be considered to become the city's top executive: R. Leon Churchill Jr., managing director of Reading, Pa.; David Corliss, interim city manager for Lawrence; and Dennis Taylor, city manager of Eugene, Ore.

Interviews will continue Sunday. Mayor Mike Amyx said the commission hopes to make a job offer to one of the three individuals in early October.

Just a very quick google search shows Leon Churchill interviewed for the Dayton Ohio job last week (no idea if that job was filled), and Dennis Taylor fough two years ago against having an "independent external auditor" on a police sex scandals. That looks like a funny story too, Eugene Oregon looks like to even be a more liberal-pot smoking town then Lawrence
