Geoff Deman, a brewer at Free State Brewing Co., has been awarded the Master Brewers Association of the Americas William A. Hipp scholarship to attend the association’s 2006 Brewing and Malting Science Course in Madison, Wis.

Deman also will join Steve Bradt, Free State’s head brewer, as a professional panel beer judge at this year’s Great American Beer Festival, to be conducted Sept. 28-30 in Denver. The festival is the country’s largest exposition and competition for American beers.
