Topeka ? For the second time in three months, Washburn University President Jerry Farley has announced that the university had received a $2 million gift.

The most recent donation is the single-largest amount the institution has received from individuals who are still living. The donation comes from Washburn alumni Ronald and Florence Richey, both members of the Class of 1949.

Farley said most of the money would be used to establish the Richey Scholar Program, a scholarship endowment to help recruit exceptional students.

“We’re going to scour the state to find the top people,” he said

The scholarship, which will be open to current and future students from Kansas or other states, will vary in amount and number of recipients each year. Farley said an endowment would be created by investing the $2 million gift.

The Richeys’ $2 million was preceded by an equal gift from the Capitol Federal Foundation in June and $1 million from Norm Pozez, a 1980 Washburn Law School graduate, in December.
