Jewish group to promote 9/11 good deeds

A Kansas University Jewish organization will be encouraging students and Lawrence residents to do a good deed in memory of victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Chabad Jewish Center is sponsoring the Good Deed Mitzvah Marathon.

Tables will be set up in the fourth-floor lobby of the Kansas Union from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday with opportunities for participants to select good deeds to do, including making sandwiches for the homeless, write cards to children at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, buy a letter in a Torah scroll, say a prayer or donate to benefit Israel’s northern region or the victims in the Darfur region of Sudan.

Each participant will receive a wooden pin replica of the World Trade Center towers and a sticker acknowledging the good deeds. At 12:45 p.m., the group will gather at the union for a moment of silence to remember the victims.

For more information, call Rabbi Zalman Tiechtel at 832-8672.
