Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 23, 1906: “The largest beet ever seen in this office, 13 pounds, was brought in by Lee Flory yesterday. It is 14 inches long and 22 inches in circumference. : This year has brought much good work in the way of repair on the streets. Almost two miles of new paving were laid and more sections will be completed before winter. : The Navy has decided not to set up a recruiting office here since only two people inquired while the people were here for a week of testing. The Navy says it will turn to Ottawa for an area office.”
