Health department offers flu shot clinic

The Lawrence Douglas County Health Department will offer flu shots from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. It will be the department’s first flu shot clinic of the season.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have predicted ample quantities of flu vaccine this season, according to the health department.

Annually about 36,000 people die from complications of seasonal influenza, according to the CDC.

At the clinic, the flu shots cost $16 for children up to 3 years old and $21 for anyone 3 years old and older, but no one will be denied a shot because of inability to pay.

Individuals enrolled in Medicare Part B who bring their Medicare cards can get a shot for free.
