Offices, banks closed for Columbus Day

A few government offices and public services will be closed today in observance of Columbus Day.

Douglas County District Court offices in the county’s Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, 111 E. 11th St., will be closed. The county’s administrative offices and City of Lawrence offices and services will operate as normal.

Federal offices in the General Services Administration and the federal courts will be closed.

Offices in most area towns and counties will be open, except McLouth, Jefferson County’s courthouse and the Leavenworth County District Court. Other Leavenworth County offices will open.

Several banks will be closed, but others will open for some time, including Capitol Federal Savings, Capital City Bank and Peoples bank branches. Central National Bank’s branch inside Wal-Mart, 3300 Iowa, will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lawrence Transit System buses will run on a regular schedule.

Kansas University offices will be open, and classes will run on a normal schedule. The Dole Institute of Politics will open. Lawrence Bus Co. buses will run on their regular schedule.

Lawrence Public Library will be open.

There will be no regular mail delivery today. UPS and FedEx deliveries will be made.

All activities and services through Douglas County Senior Services will operate as scheduled.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will be delivering.

The business office of the Journal-World will be open normal hours.

USA Today will be delivered.
