Sunflower State Games Former administrator at KU named to top post

A former administrator of the Kansas University Athletic Department has been appointed to the top administrative post for the Sunflower State Games.

Doug Vance, who was a KU athletic department administrator for 20 years, has been named the new president of the Sunflower State Games board of directors. Vance was appointed executive director of Kansas Recreation and Parks Assn. in July 2004.

As a past president of the College Sports Information Directors of America, he was inducted into the organization’s hall of fame in 2000.

He has served on the Sunflower State Games’ board of directors since 2005.

The Sunflower State Games also announced that Pete Goering, executive editor of The Topeka Capital Journal, has accepted an invitation to sit on the board of directors.

Vance and Goering will begin their terms Nov. 29.

The Sunflower State Games is a nonprofit organization based out of Topeka. The games take place each July.
