KU class earns ‘Home of the Year’ honor

A unique modular home designed and built by Kansas University architecture students has been named “Home of the Year” by Architecture magazine.

It’s the second time in three years that students in KU architecture professor Dan Rockhill’s Studio 804 class have received the honor. The class first won the award in 2004.

The home, constructed and moved to its current location at 534 Riverview Ave. in the Strawberry Hill neighborhood in Kansas City, Kan., is featured in the magazine’s November issue.

Students in the class volunteer their design and labor for the houses, which are then sold. Past houses have sold in the $140,000 to $170,000 range.

Lawrence students who worked on the home included Brian Belcher, Jonathan Holley and Karla Karwas.
