Former Kansas Gov. Robert Bennett, who had been considering making the 1982 Kansas governor race on the Republican ticket, removed himself from further consideration and mentioned former Kansas University Chancellor Archie Dykes as a prospective entry. Former Lt. Gov. Dave Owen also was reported to be pondering a gubernatorial bid on the 1982 GOP ticket.

The Lawrence Housing Authority extended for a month the eviction date for six foreign students and their families who were living in local public dwellings. The goal of the policy was to save such abodes for local people, but officials said they could not summarily evict the foreigners without due process.
