KU to hold annual athlete banquet

Kansas University will hold its annual Senior & Scholar Athlete Banquet at 7 tonight at the Sheraton Overland Park Convention Center.

After giving the banquet a facelift last year, athletic director Lew Perkins and assistant athletic director Paul Buskirk, among others, will continue to tweak the event to make it more appealing to those in attendance.

“I was pleased,” Perkins said of last year’s event. “I thought we made a lot of progress. We got a lot of good feedback from the student-athletes and the coaches.”

The event will honor the Jayhawk Scholars, seniors and athletic All-Americans among KU’s 18 teams. In addition, two Senior Athletes of the Year will be announced, as will the Senior Scholar Athletes of the Year.

Last year, men’s basketball’s Aaron Miles and swimming’s Amy Gruber were honored as the Senior Scholar Athletes of the Year.
