Scattered showers expected through evening

Lawrence was getting scattered showers this afternoon and more could be moving in this evening through about 8 p.m., according to Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“It will just be occasional showers,” Sayers said.

A line of thunderstorms rumbled through Lawrence this morning, bringing heavy rain, penny-sized hail, lightning and up to 50 mph winds.

The storm wasn’t severe, but it quickly poured in 0.84 of an inch of rain, according to Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. As of 5 p.m., Lawrence had 0.91 of an inch of rain for the day, according to the National Weather Service’s reporting station at Lawrence Municipal Airport.

At 5:02 p.m., the airport’s temperature was 61 degrees, the humidity was 90 percent and winds were from the north at 18 mph.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 50 degrees by early Thursday morning, she said. Thursday’s high temperature will climb to 65 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies, she said.

Friday will continue to be cloudy, with the morning low temperature starting at 48 degrees, climbing to a higher of 63 degrees by Friday afternoon, Schack said.
