Museum, library seek World War II histories

Oral histories are being collected from people in Douglas County who lived through World War II.

The Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass., and the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt., are collecting the histories through a project funded by the Kansas State Historical Society.

Copies of the histories on digital tapes and transcripts will be made available at the museum and the library. At the end of the project, all original recordings and release forms will be sent to the historical society’s library and archives division. Copies also will go to the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project.

Interviews are sought with people who served in the war or worked on the home front, such as working for the American Red Cross or Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant.
