Red Sox stretch streak to 10

Mets' Martinez will try to halt string tonight

? The Boston Red Sox gave Pedro Martinez a warm welcome back while trampling his New York Mets teammates like the rest of the National League.

Mike Lowell and Alex Gonzalez homered to back rookie Jon Lester on Tuesday night, and the Red Sox beat New York, 9-4, for their 10th consecutive victory – all in interleague play. Martinez, who won two Cy Young awards and a World Series in Boston, will try to end his former team’s streak tonight when he starts at Fenway Park for the first time as a visitor.

“It will be a little distracting” to face Martinez, said Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, who greeted Martinez when he visited the Boston clubhouse before the game. “I’ll swing hard just in case I hit the ball.”

Martinez was treated to a highlights video after the first inning, and the fans called him out of the Mets dugout with a standing ovation.
