Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for June 17, 1906: “The local horticultural society is having a meeting here today with the Missouri Valley society and more than 50 visitors are here after arriving by train. : Rufus E. Lester, U.S. representative from Georgia, fell through a skylight at the Cairo Hotel in Washington last night. He is probably fatally injured. : Gov. Hoch has issued statements replying to criticisms that our W.R. Stubbs has been making about him and the governor says the criticism is quite unfair. : The Nichols Amusement Co., a carnival, closed its engagement here late Saturday with the largest crowd in any night of attendance. People patronized the shows and the petty grafters in the various booths did a good business.”
