Knights of Columbus 1372 announces the Knight of the Month and Family of the Month for the past six months of the fraternal year, which ended June 30.

Those who were received Knight of the Month were: Terry Bullerman, January; Bruce McEnroe, February; Michael Lane, March; Steven Scaletty, April; Ronald White, May; and Russell Bailey, June.

Families who received honors were those of: Dorian Witte, January; Mark Klug, February; Danny Fox, March; Patrick Ferguson, April; Mark Cairns, May; and Ed Mullins, June.

Knight of the Year was Russell Bailey, and Dorian Witte’s family was named Family of the Year.

The Lawrence Branch NAACP is having a fundraiser “Real Men Cook” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 30 at Steve’s Place, 31st and Louisiana streets.

Volunteers will prepare dishes for sampling. Wyldewood Cellar Wineries also will provide wine for sampling. Music will be provided.

Guest judges will include Douglas County Dist. Atty. Charles Branson; Steve Ramirez, Kansas University’s Office of Equal Opportunity; Kevin Willmott, local filmmaker; Joyce Pearson, KU Law library director; Boog Highberger, city commissioner; and Jayni Carey, host of “Jayni’s Kitchen” on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6.

Proceeds will benefit the Lawrence NAACP scholarship fund and freedom fund.

Cost is $15 per person in advance or $20 per person at the door.

University Bridge Club announces the winners of its July 8 game. Hosts were Bebe Huxtable and JoAnn and Walt Hicks.

Blue winners were: Leo Langlois, first; Lois Liebert, second; Bebe Huxtable, third; Harold Riehm, fourth; and Paul Jordan, fifth.

Pink winners were: Isabel Schaake, first; Donna Riehm, second; Ruth Schiefelbusch, third; Mary Jo Spotts, fourth; and Mona Langlois, fifth.
