Annual meeting today

The Douglas County Conservation District will have its 60th annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. today in Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

The Kansas Bankers Assn. will present awards to two farm families for their conservation efforts. Winners are Orville and Judy Johanning and Doris Sullivant and Bob Brandt.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the Kansas Bankers Association Wildlife Habitat Conservation Award will be given to Bo Killough for his efforts in improving and developing wildlife habitat.

The Kansas Association of Conservation Districts and Sharp Brothers Seed Grassland Award will be presented to Wise Family Trust.

The Douglas County Conservation District and the Jayhawk Chapter of Quail Unlimited co-sponsored the Douglas County Buffer Award to be presented to Bruce and Scott Johanning.

Elementary students in Douglas County will be honored with medals as winners in the poster, essay and limerick contests.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service District conservationist, Clyde Mermis, will present an NRCS report of conservation work during this past year.

The master of ceremonies is board chairman Don Palmateer.

An election will be conducted for two board positions, currently held by Don Palmateer and Don Schwartz.

Natural Resources Conservation Service Staff: Clyde Mermis, district conservationist; Coleen Davison, soil conservationist; Alan Gentry, conservation technician; Bruce Evans, soil scientist, and Tony Robertson, soil scientist.
