Veritas boys win, girls fall

? Marcus Holman led four Veritas Christian School boys basketball players in double figures with 14 points as the Eagles ran away from Flint Hills Christian, 70-54, on Friday.

Mark Randtke and Casey Woods each scored 13 for Veritas (9-6), and Andrew Bartlow added 12.

“There were times tonight we really looked sharp,” Eagles coach Doug Bennett said. “We’re working on playing a more up-tempo game, and we’re starting to make ground there.”

Manhattan – Kristie Tiegreen and Adi Willems each recorded a double-double, but the Veritas girls fell to Flint Hills.

Tiegreen had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Willems 11 points and 10 boards, but the Eagles (6-8) were doomed by three single-digit quarters, including a six-point first, and 26-percent field-goal shooting.

“We started slow,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. “We fought back in the second quarter a little bit, but we didn’t come out from halftime very well. We had some unforced errors that led to some easy baskets for them, and we could not recover after that.”
