Bush honors Lawrence volunteer

? President Bush today presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Janet Dunn, Lawrence, as he arrived in Topeka this morning.

Dunn organized the creation and distribution of 100 personalized teddy bears for children of National Guardsmen who were deployed during 2005.

Bush, who was delivering the Landon Lecture today at Kansas State University in Manhattan, has met with more than 460 people around the country to thank them for their volunteerism.

Dunn, a master sergeant in the Kansas Air National Guard, is a volunteer with the Wing Family Program Office at Forbes Field Air Guard Station.

Dunn is the liaison between the Wing Family Program Office and the 190th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Forbes Field Air Guard Station.

Dunn supports military families when the National Guard service members are deployed around the world.

She maintains contact with more than 90 squadron families and helps plan special events, childcare services and family support programs.
