Abortion-rights advocates hold rally
Topeka ? Abortion-rights advocates were at the Capitol Thursday for a rally and day of lobbying to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision granting women the right to an abortion.
An anti-abortion event marking the anniversary is planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday on the south steps of the Capitol.
At Thursday’s event, abortion-rights advocates pressed lawmakers to support women’s right to choose.
Peter Brownlee, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri, said top priorities are ensuring there are no further restrictions on abortion access and pushing for a focus on prevention and education.
David Gittrich, state development director for Kansans For Life, said he expected 1,000 people to attend Monday’s rally.
