Roby huge as Buffs trip Tigers

? Richard Roby hit most of Colorado’s big shots before Chris Copeland hit the biggest.

Roby scored a career-best 33 points, and Copeland hit the last of the Buffaloes’ season-high 13 three-pointers with two-tenths of a second to go in a 74-71 victory Saturday at Missouri.

“It felt smooth coming off my hands,” Copeland said. “I felt the laces around the ball. It was just all good.”

Copeland had 15 points for Colorado (11-3 overall, 1-2 Big 12 Conference), which ended an eight-game losing streak at Missouri (9-5, 2-1). The Buffaloes, who were 13-for-29 from three-point range, had lost 33 of their previous 34 at Missouri and ended the Tigers’ eight-game overall home winning streak.

“It’s definitely an emotional win,” Roby said. “We wanted to come in here and do something a lot of teams haven’t been able to do.”

Thomas Gardner had 22 points for Missouri, shrugging off a mild concussion sustained two days earlier in practice, and Jimmy McKinney also had 22. But a traveling call on Gardner with 8.2 seconds left gave Colorado the opening it needed.

Colorado's Richard Roby, right, shoots over Missouri's Jimmy McKinney. Roby scored a career-high 33, leading CU to a 74-71 victory over the Tigers on Saturday in Columbia, Mo.

“We may fly back, and tomorrow the guys will think they’re Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen and shoot a dud the next game out,” coach Ricardo Patton said. “We’ll see what happens.”

The finish stunned a season-best crowd of 10,684.

“We got the lead and let them back in it with Roby,” MU coach Quin Snyder said. “I told them about him every time out.”

The Longhorns (14-2, 2-0) have done it with stifling defense that held all six opponents in the streak under 40 percent shooting.

“Our defense was outstanding again,” Texas coach Rick Barnes said. “That has been the difference in our team.”

Randy Foye, Kyle Lowry and Allan Ray each scored 13 points for Villanova (11-2).
