The public fish salvage at Douglas County State Fishing Lake has been extended through Jan. 29. The salvage began Saturday and had been scheduled to conclude Sunday.

People may participate in the fish salvage only during daytime hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., officials with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks said.

The department said the following are legal methods of salvage: rod and line, setline, legal seine (as defined by the fishing regulation book), dip net, cast net, gig and handfishing. No more than two rods and lines with no more than two hooks (single or treble) per line can be used.

In addition, each angler may have up to eight setlines with no more than two hooks per line. The name and address of the attendee must accompany each setline and all setlines must be checked at least once every 24 hours by the attendee.

Snagging will be permitted. Trotlines are not allowed. There will be no limit on the number of fish that can be taken.

The lake northeast of Baldwin is being drained for repairs and improvements to its dam and fish habitat.
