The Douglas County Court Appointed Special Advocate program is looking for volunteers to participate in a training session beginning Feb. 16. Volunteers advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children who are under the protection of the court. Volunteers must be 21 years of age and willing to commit to a case for a minimum of one year. Volunteers will undergo a background check. Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Volunteers are needed to assist with children’s programming for the Visions for Tomorrow class. The children’s group may include children with a variety of special needs addressed in the class, including ADD/ADHD, PDD/Autism, Tourette’s disorder, conduct disorder, Bipolar, depressive and eating disorders, anxiety disorders, Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective. Volunteers with interest or experience working with children with special needs and students in related areas of study are welcome to volunteer. Volunteers must be willing to assist each Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., beginning Feb. 2, until March 30. ¢ Lawrence Memorial Hospital seeks volunteers to fill a variety of positions, to serve in the outpatient services department, nursing units, gift shop, and waiting areas. Volunteers must make a commitment of three to six months for three to four hours per week of volunteer service. Volunteers are needed at the main LMH and LMH South sites to assist staff in transporting patients by wheelchair, preparing rooms, delivering errands within the hospital, greeting visitors and cashiering in the gift shop. ¢ The Safe Winter Walkways Program seeks volunteers to shovel snow on behalf of elderly and disabled community members. The program serves community members who are unable to shovel their sidewalks by matching them with a volunteer who agrees to shovel after each significant snowfall this winter. The goal of the program is to match volunteers with residents in close proximity to their homes. Matches are currently being made, but more volunteers are needed.
