Journal-World wins 11 newspaper awards

The Lawrence Journal-World on Friday won 11 Suburban Newspapers of America Awards, the most of any publication in the country.

This news follows SNA’s announcement in August proclaiming the Journal-World as the Newspaper of the Year for papers up to 25,000 daily circulation.

The Journal-World won two first-place, four second-place and five third-place awards.

First-place awards included Best Sports Section for a compilation of work and Best Special Section for KU Today.

Second-place awards went to Pulse for Best Young People’s Coverage, senior editor Bill Snead and photo editor Mike Yoder each for Best Feature Photo, and entertainment editor Jon Niccum for Best Arts & Entertainment Feature Writing.

Third-place awards were for Best Front Page, Best Editorial Page, Pulse for Best Non-Page One Layout, arts editor Mindie Paget for Best Arts & Entertainment Feature Writing and photographer Scott McClurg for Best Sports Photo.

Suburban Newspapers of America is composed of 2,000 newspapers across North America.
