Tigers end No. 4 Baylor’s win streak at 30

? Baylor’s streak is over.

Latoya Bond scored 21 points, and Missouri ended the defending national champion and No. 4 Bears’ 30-game winning streak, 64-61 Wednesday night.

Tiffany Brooks blocked Jordan Davis’ three-point attempt with six seconds left, helping the Tigers (11-2, 1-0 Big 12) extend their own winning streak to 10 games and get their first victory against a top-10 team since the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament in 2001.

Sophia Young had 31 points and 11 rebounds for Baylor (11-1, 0-1), which played from behind most of the game. Chameka Scott had nine points and 10 rebounds, and Angela Tisdale scored seven in her return from a three-game suspension.

“We’re not a good enough team to have any player on our team have a night off, and we had about three to four players that didn’t play tonight, for whatever reason,” Baylor coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson said.

Brooks finished with 12 points, and EeTisha Riddle had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Missouri.

The Tigers led by as many as eight with 13:09 left, but the Bears hung close thanks to Young. She scored 14 of Baylor’s final 23 points, including a jumper that put it ahead 59-56 with 3:16 left.

“The second half to even get back and take lead with how poorly we were offensively, with the exception of Sophia Young, was amazing,” Mulkey-Robertson said.

Riddle hit a three-pointer with 2:02 left to beat the shot clock and give the Tigers a 61-59 lead.

“I was thinking, ‘Lord, please help this ball go in,”‘ Riddle said. “The clock was running down and I didn’t have anywhere else to go, so I shot it and thankfully it went in.”

After Scott tied the game, Brooks put MU ahead for good with a jumper with 1:17 left.

“Young is so tough, I don’t know if you can ever stop her, but we did a good job of stopping everyone else,” Missouri coach Cindy Stein said.
