Drop-in Center needs store supplies

The Lawrence Community Shelter provides safe day and night shelter and comprehensive support services for people experiencing homelessness or those who are at risk of becoming homeless. The Shelter houses a Drop-In Store, carrying basic necessities that can be purchased with “drop-in dollars” earned by completing jobs at the Shelter. The Drop-In Store is in need of volunteers to staff the shop as well as donations of personal hygiene products, snacks, clothing, and other necessities. Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Lawrence Meals on Wheels seeks volunteer drivers to assist with meal delivery. The program provides hot, nutritious meals to the homebound elderly and/or disabled people in Lawrence. Positions are available each day of the week to pick up and deliver meals, and delivery takes about 45 minutes. For more information, call Kim Culliss at 979-1440.

¢ The Kansas Audio-Reader Network is in need of volunteer readers between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. most days of the week. Audio Reader is also in need of a donated storage space to house items that are donated for its annual fundraiser, For Your Ears Only. The space must be 800 square feet and climate-controlled, on a first floor or accessible by elevator. ¢ Lawrence Habitat ReStore is looking for volunteers with experience in any of the following categories: hardware, construction, remodeling, retail, cashiering, customer service, janitorial or heavy lifting. Volunteers will assist with the general operation of a building supply store that sells donated building materials at low cost to the community to generate revenue for Lawrence Habitat for Humanity. Volunteer assistance is needed on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Interested volunteers may contact K.H., manager of the ReStore, at 832-0777 or 764-6889.

¢ The Douglas County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) seeks volunteers from all fields who are willing to help in a public health emergency situation. MRC volunteers serve nonemergency roles as educators on healthy living issues, and activate in response to public health emergencies and community disasters. The Douglas County MRC is a program of the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, established in response to national disasters.
