There are so many types of wedding bands out there, from traditional to ultramodern. Wondering which styles are the most popular and right for you? Check out these three trends.

Color

Bands with diamonds are always fashionable, but these days many couples are choosing to make their rings stand out with colorful stones. Rebecca Moskal of the jewelry company Beaudry says, “Couples are drawn to pink and yellow because they are rare and the bride and groom often want one-of-a-kind pieces.” Blue sapphires are also popular, often reflecting the bride’s or groom’s birthstone or simply representing the couple’s favorite color. Another hue gaining popularity is the pink diamond or pink sapphire. The differences: pink diamonds are more expensive and lighter in color than the deeper colored pink sapphires.

Vintage

Rings that look like they could be your grandma’s are big right now. Detailed filigree designs, elegant milgrain and beaded edges created with a special engraving tool are just a few of the fine touches that give even modern rings a classic Victorian feeling, according to Angela Karaguezian, director of marketing and publicity at Kirk Kara, a designer of fine bridal and fashion jewelry. “To create a vintage look with a modern flair, hand engraving is performed by skilled artisans, giving each design the look and feel of the late 1800s or early 1900s,” Karaguezian says.

Pave Diamonds

Another trend that is big in wedding jewelry is bands with pave stones, which are essentially diamond chips placed so closely together that no metal shows. Already popular in engagement rings, pave stones are now frequently used in wedding bands. Says Moskal, “Now that we’re seeing women wear their band alone (with the engagement ring on the right hand and the wedding ring on the left), they want a more substantial band.” Whether you choose to wear your rings together or on different hands, pave is a great diamond option. When rings are worn together, pave details can make each ring seem to flow into the other one.

Whether you choose to follow one of these trends or create an entirely different look for your bands, remember that comfort is key; try the bands on, make sure you like how they look and feel on your hand and consider your lifestyle before choosing the final ring. If you’re active and work a lot with your hands you might pick a certain style that is different than if you’re less active. Remember, you’ll be wearing this ’til death do you part.
