From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 20, 1906: “The city council last night took steps for improvement of Oread Avenue and Hancock Street on Mount Oread in the neighborhood of the university. About $1,300 will be spent and the Oread paving will be 30 feet wide. : A 10 percent dividend was declared today in the estate of Mary E. Cawthorne, bankrupt. Miss Cawthorne was a milliner in Lawrence and appeared to be doing a good business. She left here abruptly and left her affairs tangled. She was forced into bankruptcy.”
