Sunflower Kids Wrestling had a strong showing Saturday at the Tournament of Champions, Kansas’ toughest tournament of the season, in Salina.

There were more than 1,200 wrestlers at the competition. Sunflower had nine of their wrestlers compete, sending five to the championship round.

Sunflower wrestler Hunter Haralson has his opponent to the mat at the Tournament of Champions in Salina over the weekend. Haralson won the championship for his age division in what is Kansas' toughest tournament of the season.

Winning championships for Sunflower were Hunter Haralson and Nick Pursel. Levi Flohrschutz, Reece Conklin and Josh Hanson all fell to out of state wrestlers from Oklahoma and Missouri in the finals finishing in the runner-up spot. Koty Russell finished a long fought day in fourth place.

Also competing in the weekend tournament were Trevor Rine, Caden Lynch and Chase Russell.

Sunflower Kids Wrestling competes next weekend at Shawnee Heights in Tecumseh. They plan to send 15 wrestlers to the Thunderbird Open.
