Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 28, 1906: “The year that is ending has been a generally ‘fat’ year for many and any honest business that is not prospering needs to check others to see why. Farmers in particular are doing very well and generally the Kansas merchants and banks have prospered, with many wealthy farmers getting into the banking business. Providence also has been kind to our nation and generally 1906 will go into the books as one of the best years for many. Locally, we have been blessed by many with prosperity. : Latest figures show that the state of Kansas in the past year managed to raise 20 bushels of grain for every family in America. That is quite a record.”
